Crowd Funding Milestones

OSE is one of the leaders in crowd-funding as a funding strategy. Our beginnings were founded on a $1500/month budget obtained via crowd funding - such as Chip-In and True Fans. Inspired by Kevin Kelly's 1000 True Fans concepts, we have begun our True Fans Campaign in January of 2009 and now (2012) have over 500 subscribers - see True Fans. Furthermore:

  • In September 2011, we have successfully collected $20k in 7 days when we needed to begin construction and we were out of funds - [1]
  • In November 2011, we have succeeded in raising $63k gross via Kickstarter.

Since then, we have received the Shuttleworth Fellowship and other grants via the nonprofit sector. However, as a test of the true viability of our work - we will continue to rely on the community of True Fans, and make up the rest of the budget by selling our products. Products will be produced via Collaborative Production Runs, which push the limits of radical inclusion in Flexible Production.
