Hi 3D Printer Construction Set Workshop Participants,

Build Day is coming up. It will be full of learning and productivity. I will start with an overview on OSE and the 3D printer - start time is 8 AM in the workshop. Goal is to finish by 6. So we can discuss learnings in the evening.

Some notes on preparation -

0. The build will be collaborative. We have found that the quickest way for everyone to finish is if we move as a team. That means we do a small section of the build, and everyone finishes that before going to the next step. A looping overhead video will play build instructions. As soon as the anyone is done with a section - they begin helping anyone else who is not finished. At the end - everyone is helping the last person to finish. We do this for every section of the build. This workflow assures that nobody is left behind and everyone finishes in decent time.

1. Please coordinate travel if you need a ride from the airport with people who are offering rides. Please take a look at the logistics survey results to see who is offering a ride at what time so you can catch a ride. Let me know if you have any issues. My cell phone is 816.646.3968. If you haven't filled out the Logistics Form, please do so.

2. Video Contest is on. We'll be giving away an OSE 3D Printer Construction Set T-Shirt to the person who makes the best event video. So bring a camera and tripod. Use your cell phone. Download a time-lapse app. I use Open Camera on Android for time lapse and video. We will also have a remote video team - I will take some video and interviews during the build. The aim is that the remote edit team produces a video the same day.

3. To run your 3D Printer you will need a laptop with USB port. Download and install Arduino Environment 1.6.8 (note you should download version 1.6.8 - not the latest version - as this one was tested), Pronterface, and Lulzbot Cura. To control the printer, you will need to Download of the control software - OSE Marlin - http://opensourceecology.org/wiki/File:OSE_Marlin.zip - which we upload to the 3D printer. We are aiming to have all this software on a Live USB for the workshop.

4. We will have FreeCAD CAD files and Instructional Videos available on USB sticks to help you with the build. That's the second reason to bring your laptop. Download FreeCAD ((http://freecadweb.org/wiki/Download) if you'l like to see our designs in 3D to help you with the build. 5. If you have a spare Arduino Mega, please bring it. We have a good number of these microcontrollers, but there is a chance that some won't work with certain computers. In fact, you can preinstall our firmware to the Arduino. To upload the software to your 3D printer, you will have to have the Arduino Environment, v1.6.8 (not the latest version, as the latest version can crash) - https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/OldSoftwareReleases#previous . Arduino Environment is used to upload the Marlin code to the Arduino Mega controller that we use.

6. If you have a cordless drill, that will also come handy. We will be driving a lot of these socket head screws - with a 5 mm hex drive bit - so bring this bit if you have one. The only other tool we'll need is a small philips and flat head. We provide all tools, more tools can not hurt.

6. There is talk of a potluck dinner on Saturday.
