  • Selected categories that added up to about 1M potential audience. Removed one that made it 4M - as a specified number of ads would be diluted to a non-specific audience.
  • Spending $200 on 9 days of ads right up to the workshop date.
  • Results? Expecting a few signups for net ROI of at least 100% (one signup at least makes it worth it). If this signup occurs tomorrow, there is a good chance that this was result of ad. Optimistic case: one signup per day for the next 9 days.

Also... interesting results from a small Facebook BOOST. We targeted San Diego area and picked all the little demographics... getting very good "click throughs" to the actual signup page... 98 in a day and a half... with one confirmed and two more who I spoke with on the phone who say they will sign up. - Investment is maximum of $20/day but so far it has charged less than that for some reason.

I'll keep you updated on that... but it seems encouraging so far.

Thanks. Tell me your strategy for the social media?

it's really simple.

  1. Crowd-source it via trello: https://trello.com/b/VH1A46tu/fanpage
  2. Post no more than 2-3 times a day,
  3. Post viral things, not only about your work
  4. Do online webinar once a month
  5. Delate content that has activity less than 30 likes
  6. Do it every day.

RE: it's really simple.

1. Crowd-source it via trello: https://trello.com/b/VH1A46tu/fanpage You could get your true fans to post items to Trello and then curate those for posting rather than have them made collaborators on facebook. That way you control the subject matter. Perhaps the people that are contacting you and generating dialogue would be people you could personally invite. You would direct message them as Marcin.

BTW - Trello is a collaboration project management tool which I think would be great for you and your teams to use for everything. Better tool than wiki's and spreadsheets. It can become a screen capture for wiki logs.

2. Post no more than 2-3 times a day You are already doing this.

3. Post viral things, not only about your work Yes... share viral don't just push your own stuff. AND like other entities. Watch them in the stream. Share their work and @their name as a mention in the post so they know you are talking about them- they will get a message in their inbox.

4. Do online webinar once a month Regarding webinars - as a way of building? For a while, College tours and workshops will serve you better. Face-to-Face brings the academic pros on board - are you getting buy in for class credit at the institutions?

5. Delate content that has activity less than 30 likes This is interesting - news to me.

6. Do it every day. Absolutely - you've been rigorous with consistency

7. Additionally... do the sign up ads that we discussed. It will drive participation and likes to. facebook. Organic exposure has diminished big time as facebook moves to a monotize.

8. when you aren't pitching for workshops/summer interns - keep a like us ad going for $10 a day... building exposure in your open source/maker interests category.

best, em
