HintLightbulb.png Hint: Recommended metal gauges is 11 gauge or 1/8", though 10 and 12 gauge will work as well. The frame file below uses a 4'x8' sheet of steel for cutting. Each 4x8 sheet gives 16", 14", 12", and 10" frames, with inner cutout being a 6" print bed. 12 frames total. If we use a 5'x10' sheet of steel - then we can get 20", 18", 16", 14", 12", and 10" frames with respectively smaller possible print area. Thus, each 5x10 sheet gets you 18 frame sets, minimizing material waste. Both 4x8 and 5x10 give great material efficiency, with the larger sheet providing respectively larger frames.

Version History

  • the April 4, 2017 version is 4-nested. Optimizing material use over the original . 16", 14", 12", and 10" frames, with inner cutout being a 6" print bed.
  • 20 February 2017 version is 3-nested. (Where is older file?)
  • 16" for outer square, 2" edge width
  • 12" for outer square, 2" edge width
  • 8" for outer square, 1.5" edge width
  • Save the inner square. It will be used for mounting plates.
  • if sheet is not exaclty 4'x8', an edge must be drawn around the frame so that every outer nested piece is exactly 16" on the side.
  • 3 nested pieces can make 3 frames (each frame is made of 6 pieces

Notes

  • November 9, 2018 cutting quote is $297 + $40 delivery from Seaman and Schuske.
