WHO are you?

  • Name - Ian Midgley
  • Location (city, country) - Los Angeles, USA
  • Contact Information (email, phone, Skype) - il (dot) midgley (at) gmail (dot) com, 860.748.3651
  • Resume/CV -

I am an independent filmmaker. Graduated from Emerson College in 2007 with a degree in film production and moved to Los Angeles where I've been living for the past four years making music videos and short documentaries. You can see my current film project here: http://www.youaregodmovie.com
And you can see my past work here: http://www.ianmidgley.com
I've also worked as a freelance camera operator/set dresser/art installer in the film and fine art industries for several years.

WHY are you motivated to support/develop this work?

  • Do you endorse open source culture?

Yes

  • Why are you interested in collaborating with us?

I am shooting a documentary film about people creating their own realities; about free thinkers and free doers. The goal of the project is to document several nonconformist individuals who are pursuing unique visions of alternative living. It is my mission to document a few of the limitless possibilities of creative living. I believe that the Open Source Ecology Project is a perfect example of shaping one's environment and empowering the everyman.

  • How do you think that the GVCS can address pressing world issues?

The current economic structure of consumerism is not sustainable. GVCS can actually provide a method for villages and individuals to take the means of production into their own hands and separate from the dominant economy.

  • What should happen so that you become more involved with the project?

I'd like the opportunity to visit the project site and film with some members of the Open Source Ecology project. I've been filming extensively with my main characters, and the more time and access I am granted to film the better I am able to show the positive human potential expressed through the creative actions of each subject. It would be best if I could film on site for at least a week.

  • What are you missing in the project?

  • What are your suggestions for improvement of the project?

Thoughtful documentation of what y'all are doing is necessary for the public to see today and in the future. Getting the word out will inspire people and also provide for future working partners and sponsors.

The GVCS is the preparatory step for the OSE Village Experiment - a 2 year, immersion experiment (2013-2014) for testing whether a real, thriving, modern-day prototype community of 200 people can be built on 200 acres using local resources and open access to information? We are looking for approximately 200 people to fill a diverse array of roles, according to the Social Contract that is being developed. This may be the boldest social experiment on earth - a pioneering community whose goal is to extend the index of possibilities regarding harmonious existence of humans, ecology, and technology - as a beacon of light to benefit of all people on Earth.
