So far we have 29 people registered for the Aquaponics Build, and $8.4k gross revenue, making this the most successful registration to date. By the end of Early Bird discounts (3 weeks before event), the participation goal of 24 was reached. What worked? Nice instructionals, Sweet Home 3D, short and powerful video even though not professionally produced - was power packed in content. The biggest message to me is Full Diet from 800 SF with Waste Biomass as the Only Input. If proven true, this is very powerful. We had the French connection via Helene from Canada - such that a group of 4 Canadians and another Canadian signed up. Two TED Fellows. Just positive interest - the FB post with announcement got 50k hits, and the other major was Mother Earth News - though the feedback from the participants will be the real determinant of where signups came from. We now know: FB is #1 source, OSE email list, Helene, Regrarians, etc. Still haven't emailed the Aquaponics Working Group - 100 people. The value proposition: compressing months of learning into a powerful 6 day immersion experience.

Other issues - OSE Attribution Strategy.

Genspace

Hi Genspace People - if you think your people may be interested in larger open source builds - here's one from us. Open Source Ecology is developing community based production models - and we'd like to invite your audiences. We are developing open source Extreme Manufacturing techniques of efficient manufacturing 'on the scale of one' and our next milestone is to build 6 Power Cubes over the weekend with a team of 12 people. This workshop is coming up in 10 days. The modular design is streamlined, the parallel build process is refined, and immersion training is ready. If this works like we think, it's a major step forward on our community-based production model. We are looking for people interested in learning to organize/lead this type of workshop - the workshop model is open source. For anyone interested - a good step is to find out more and participate in our Extreme Build to get the flavor of what our work is about. Kansas City location - find out more at http://bit.ly/1A3ncCT.

Only 10 days left to register for the Power Cube Workshop. Our goal is to build 6 Power Cubes over the weekend. The modular design is streamlined, and the parallel build process is refined. If this works like we think, it's a major step forward on our community-based production model. Can this be the fuel for right livelihood creation by the masses? http://bit.ly/1A3ncCT

Mark Hatch

Hi Mark,

I wanted to bring up the topic of collaborating on workshops. We are getting some of our machines pretty streamlines for workshop-based builds, such as the Power Cube. One question is - is TechShop interested in running such workshops?

There could be 2 scenarios - one where OSE can run an immersive build workshop at TechShop - or one where we train TechShop staff or TechShop members to run a workshop on OSE tools.

Do you see a potential revenue model in the above?

If anyone is interested in learning to organize/lead this type of workshop - the workshop model is open source. If you are interested - then it may be useful for one of your people to attend or you can pass this on to your members. More info about the workshop so you get an idea of what we offer is at http://bit.ly/1A3ncCT. Feel free to pass this on to your audiences.

We are looking especially for entrepreneuarial types who see the potential in community-based manufacturing with efficiency on the scale of one. Using our Extreme Manufacturing techniques - our next milestone is to build 6 Power Cubes over the weekend with a team of 12 people.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Marcin

We are exploring this question. If anyone is interested in learning to organize/lead this type of workshop - the workshop model is open source. We invite you to participate as the first step if you are interested in replicating the model. The revenue model is product sales and workshop tuitions. If you would like to participate in making open source history, there are a few spots left. Kansas City location - register and find out more at http://bit.ly/1A3ncCT.

For transparency - we think there is great potential to expand such a model if real goods are produced in an event that combines education and production into one. We are innovating on this front. If the good produced is a large market item - this model has the potential to impact manufacturing on a large scale. We are showing that efficient production can occur at the quantity of one (or several), and our aim is to make this model highly replicable - while including a quality control function as an inherent part of the process.

Thanks, Marcin

Hello Friends,

To fill in some details - it is actually important to emhasize our efforts in Extreme Manufacturing as a route to community-based manufacturing.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/napermacultureconvergence/ - The Miracle Orchard workshop is coming up on July 25-26 at Open Source Ecology for those interested in the nuts and bolts of perennial polyculture orchards - beyond organic. We are planning on the first Les Fermes Miracle Farms model orchard in the USA as an outcome, so anyone interested in replicating this work is welcome.

Noisebridge FB - Hi Noisebridge friends - are you interested in collaborating on workshops? We run mictrotractor builds and other events - this may be interesting to you - for example - wood powered mictrotractor - http://opensourceecology.org/gasifier-and-biochar-workshop/

Hackerspaces FB page - Announcing a Documentation Sprint where we produce instructionals for the latest stable version of the open source Power Cube - v15.6 - to be built in our upcoming workshop - http://bit.ly/1A3ncCT. For the Documentation Sprint - we are meeting this Friday, 5 PM CST USA time on the OSE Hangout. Instructions for how to participate in this documentation sprint are summarized in this explainer video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTgbTXERSWY

Hammerspace FB - Dear Hammerspace, we'd like to consider collaborating on immersion build workshops on the open source carbon-negative microtractor powered by charcoal - or other similar topics. Are you interested in hosting a microtractor build at your place? This is a link - http://opensourceecology.org/gasifier-and-biochar-workshop/

Hi Public Lab people - we will be holding a workshop that includes converting aerial photos to geolocated maps in our Open Source Mapping and Site Design Workshop. We will have at least one aerial drone - but we are interested in having more drones on site to get more detailed coverage. Would any people in your audience be interested in this course? We can offer 25% off the workshop cost to those who bring a drone equipped with camera to help collect data. Please see http://bit.ly/1FnPVhm and pass this on to your audience.

Ouishare Factory FB - For anyone interested in hands-on crash courses in fabrication, we are deploying a build of our carbon negative open source microtractor powered by local biomass. This workshop may mark a turning point for a smaller machine in Open Source Ecology's set - which can have wider popular appeal. See http://bit.ly/1Ic8aZ

Peter Donovan, info@soilcarboncoalition.org - Hi Peter, I found out about your project from Dorn Cox at Farmhack. I am the founder of Open Source Ecology, and I am wondering if you have any resources regarding continuous charcoal production for making biochar. We are building a carbon negative, open source microtractor powered by char - and intend to use that regularly. For that to be realistic, we would like to build a continuous biochar production system. Do you have any insights on individuals who can assist in this - and who believe in open source design? And by the way, if you can pass the biochar microtractor workshop announcement on to your network, that would be great. http://bit.ly/1Ic8aZ4
