Could someone take a look at the hydraulic description I uploaded CEB_Press/Research_Development/Hydraulic_Design to check its accuracy? -CH 27Dec2011

This page will hold the final version of the Build Instructions after the wiki reorganization. This is a list of pages that might hold relevant info. These need to be consolidated here: --Conor 10:00, 20 February 2011 (PST)

From this page you will find information on how to build the different models of Compressed Earth Brick (CEB) press machines that the Open Source Ecology group have designed.

Manufacturing Instructions Development Log

I started work on a word processing version of the CEB Press User's Manual on the 18 September 2011 (a few hours over one day ago). I am using OpenOffice 3.3. I intend this version to be print-friendly, and to publish the final draft in .PDF format.

As anticipated, I am encountering some hurdles to completing it, but I am steaming past them as best I can. I am trying to be as prolific as I can in commenting the .ODT source document, and describing the various hurdles (sometimes conundrums on whether to do X or Y, or explaining why I chose to do X over Y, etc.) on the GVCS Technical Development/Documentation and Instructionals subforum.

I am doing this remotely and blindly. I do not know if someone is already working on this at Factor e Farm ... but given there's no mention here and no reply to a thread Marcin made dated seven months prior to my writing this comment asking for someone to put together the build manual, I took it upon myself to throw caution to the wind and try to draft something together. If for some reason it proves a complete failure, at least it would be a model for what not to do! :P --Howard V. Agnew 09:32, 20 September 2011 (CEST)

Thad at the farm is pro-PDF but i think he's working on other stuff for the near future. for me, i think problems will arise with use and wear, notes and tweaks will needed to be made to the design/instructions, so im pro-Wiki. but, both can and will work when they are complete, so im not anti anything :D if you have any questions feel free to message me on my talk page, we can work through problems you hit. im not at the farm now but i know some general stuff or at least who could maybe answer stuff. Thank you for your help, Dorkmo. I've been in contact via e-mail with Marcin, and he's pointed me toward Brianna to collaborate on documentation, so I e-mailed her and am waiting to hear back from her before proceeding too much further. I think a wiki and PDF combo is a good solution. Printed instructions are easier to use for someone actually planning to manufacture this. The dynamic nature of the wiki can actually make it a challenge if stuff is partially changed or updated, the printed .PDF and the working word processing documents leading to a .PDF draft, I think, would be easier to keep control over and consistent with OSE documentation specialists peer reviewing and collaborating for accuracy, completeness, ensuring the diagrams and information are up to date with the latest builds. I think there's a good need for organization, unless stuff is going on that isn't visible from the website, wiki and forums. Thank you very much for your work though! --Howard V. Warning note regarding Google Sketchup model of CEB Press

This model does not reflect current specs. I am going through one part at a time with Brianna and have just completed updates to the models of the Primary Arms, which do not have the correct thickness and may have incorrect bolt placements (have not verified that). Unfortunately, I expect there to be a number of revisions in a number of parts, and it may be impractical to attempt to revise the assembled model until the individual parts are brought up to current spec.

This will probably take some time, but I think well worth it ... when all the component parts are updated for their specifications and instructions, the Google sketchup drawings are updated and the changes to the parts (like the thickness of the angle irons) are reflected in the Bill of Materials, we should then be at the point of the first complete set of building instructions for the CEB Press. I expect it to be slow going, as I know Brianna is busy with school, but I am glad to be inching forward.

As the manufacturing instructions will be completed on the Wiki, I will also be adding those sections to the word processing document in OpenOffice which will eventually be used (when the draft is completed and I double check it with Brianna) to generate a .PDF for easy, well-formatted printing including sketchup models. --Howard V. check marks

i started using mark's check marks (Check.png) for stuff im super confident complete. go ahead and use them too if you'd swear on your left pinky finger something done. --Dorkmo 20:56, 3 October 2011 (CEST)
