So this is my first prototype of a vertical garden. It's a bit overbuilt, but being a landscape architect, I probably overdesigned it.

The whole idea of this vertical garden is to provide an opportunity to grow fresh produce from confined spaces. If successful, this idea could be implemented into residences with little or limited yard space.

The design feature galvanized conduit (1") as the pivot, with 3/4" conduit for the upper and lower basket hangers. I used 9" square pots, with a hand bent 12 gauge steel 'hangar' for each pair of pots. The pots are staggered to provide vertical space for plants to grow and receive sunlight/rain. The unit can be rotated horizontally or left perpendicular to the sun, taking advantage of the ideal solar aspect.

The whole unit is built on wheels which allows it to be wheeled indoors during the shoulder seasons. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some produce that is able to be grown during the sunlight deprived winter months. I'm hoping to accomplish this without supplementing artificial light. Time will tell.

For now, I've planted seeds and some small plants. Off the top of my head, the garden species include: tomatoes, peppers, spinach, carrots, beans, peas, cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, cannibas, beets, radishes, and celery. Not sure which will do well, and which ones will fail.
