About OSE

Based on About Ubuntu.

From the start we had a clear vision - to develop open source blueprints for civilization and make them available to all.

OSE gives you open source blueprints for critical infrastructure technologies, building on industry standards, with your freedom to use and adapt the designs as you see fit. Best of all, OSE plans are and always will be absolutely free.

The OSE Promise

Open Source Ecology (OSE) is a social enterprise.

OSE ‘s current product is The Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) ; a modular, DIY, low-cost, high-performance platform that allows for the easy fabrication of the 50 different Industrial Machines that it takes to build a small, sustainable civilization with modern comforts. The cost of GVCS Open Source machines are 5x less while meeting or exceeding industry standards. They embody simplicity, modularity, and lifetime design. Our goal for the GVCS, is that as few as 12 people can create a modern standard of living - from raw land and local resources - at 2 hours of work per day. This time savings can provide the freedom to pursue personal endeavors that enrich both the community and the individual.

Our collaborative platform gives farmers, producers, social entrepreneurs- anyone - a chance to go to the next level of progress: design, build, test, document, teach, replicate, aggregate. The goal is to allow people to build while learning all the best practices. Each user becomes a developer, contributing improvements by adding to the freely available CAD drawings, templates and instructions. With each iteration strides are made in efficiency and speed.

The enterprise is up and humming. So far 65 prototypes from the construction set have been built in 5 countries. We will eventually scale to 144 enterprise incubators and open source economy development centers all working to train and provide revenue and products for use. We want an efficient open economy that accelerates innovation and creates a sustainable future for as many people as possible, as fast as possible.

With this in mind we state our promise:

We are a collaborative open platform that provides access to know-how and tools which allow individuals to achieve material security, autonomy and abundance.

Executive Director's Statement - Towards the Efficient Economy

Open Source Ecology intends to build a collaborative development and manufacturing platform that revolutionized the way that the economy operates today. We design our products in a different way. Our designs are simple and modular. Therefore, they are designed for a lifetime of service. Our goal is to have people gain full control over their technology, like playing with Lego blocks for life-size machines.

Open Source Ecology believes that the next economy is the open source economy - where we all have access to know-how - so we can build upon it, unleash innovation, and leave nobody behind.

Our enterprise model is education for disruptive entrepreneurship. First, there was Social Enterprise. Now we are introducing Distributive Enterprise - where the business model includes giving away enterprise information to increase innovation. We share not only our machine designs, but also our enterprise plans - completely openly.

Our goal for 2013 is to stabilize the organization - developing a solid executive team and attaining full organizational structure as a humanitarian organization. In 2013, we aim to streamline our radically collaborative development and production processes, so we can go into high gear. We are continuing to develop our machines as we deploy pilot projects world-wide - to test the feasibility under the most diverse and demanding conditions.

In 2014-2015, we intend to enter a high-velocity development phase of the remaining machines of the Global Village Construction Set - based on the learnings from 2013. We intend to finish them all, and document them fully, by the end of 2015. This is our Apollo Project for a regenerative economy - our contribution to a world of abundance.

From 2016-2021 - we intend to enter the replication phase - where we build more than 100 facilities world-wide. These facilities are the OSE Incubators - for entrepreneursip training - as a step towards the efficient economy. Our means is to generate a collaborative, open source product development pipeline via a network of such development facilities - to unleash innovation worldwide as Collaborative Production establishes a foothold. We believe that the open source economy is the next step in the evolution of the modern economy.

The rest will be history.

Forward,

Marcin Jakubowski, Ph.D.

Executive Director
