  • Does that include fridge opening?
  • Logic says: most fridge energy escapes when a fridge is opened? No, only 7%? [2]
  • Right- energy loss of opening fridge door is minimal - see [3]. That is because energy density of air is low, so you don't lose much heat - less than $1/year if you open it 14,000 per year.
  • So why do horizontal fridges save 12x the power? See [[4]] It appears that it is the added insulation that chest freezers have - which makes for superefficient freezer to refrigerator conversions.
