DIY Solar Tracking System Inspired by NASA
From Open Source Ecology
Basics
- A video by NightHawkInLight on a prototype solar tracker that doesn't use computers, gps inputs or other complex data
- It was inspired by the system used to keep the Parker Solar Probe's Heat Sheild facing towards the sun at all times
Basic Design
- You have the main solar element up front (represented in the video by the piece of cardboard)
- In it's optimal shadow you have at least 3 or 4 light sensors or solar panels
- These can tell, or directly power the gimball to reposition the solar system to optimal output
