About

To date, we have reached several important milestones for Extreme Builds. We have compressed the build time of heavy machines from months - to days. For example, Ironworker 2 took us 6 months to build with 1 person, and Ironworker 3 took us 24 hours to build with 2 poeple. This relied on modularity and mastery of Critical Mechanisms. We have achieved 1 day builds, such as the 1 day build of the CEB press, which was the OSE Christmas Gift to the World 2012. We began regular 3D Printer Workshops, where we build 3D printers from parts, in one day. We ran several events where we built a house in one week, such as the Seed Eco-Home. That is only the beginning.

The next question that arises is, can humans master their technology to build anything, quickly, and inexpensively, as needed? Currently complex technology takes months. There are counerexamples, such as a modular, 10 story building going up on one day [1]. There are extreme examples, not the norm.

One Day design/build naturally would require open design, open source modularity, a pattern language for technology allowing building things like Legos, open digital manufacturing to produce parts, open materials to produce cyclic material flow inexpensively by using solar energy, and open enterprise dissemination to spread this wide. In the mainstream world, none of these 6 elements are available, as proprietary design, proliferation of incompatible standards, fossil fuels, and scarcity-based business models are the norm.

OSE envisions a world where large groups of individuals can come together to solve any material issue on the time scale of One Day - for the design, build, and enterprise rollout where each step takes only one day. For example, to design, build, and test an air defence system built from scratch - on a matter of a few days to help Ukraine.

For comparison, not many people think about delivering and scaling a complex technology - by tomorrow. On the development side, the development+supply chain could be long, spanning dozens of individuals and organizations. Each step has a corresponding time delay, and thus cost markup. Materials/parts costs are way above Fundamental Cost, such that a piece of steel weighing 0.1 kg could be $100 instead of 1 cent based on Essential Cost, a markup of 10000x is present. This gives insight into how Extreme Swarming for one-day design/build prototyping would not be possible until the Open Sector achieves cost structures nearer the essential cost - as prototyping costs would be exorbitant. And that is just one part in the whole development+supply chain.

Steps to Get There

  • Coordinate effort of 1000 highly capable design-builder Global Stewards, allocating everyone to design integration on Day 1, prototyping on Day 2, testing and data collection on Day 3, production engineering on Day 4, and enteprise rollout on Day 5. For more complex projects, such as going to another planet, this may require 10-100 teams like this, with the prerequisite of aerospace, clean room, communications, and other technologies robustified in the Edge of Knowledge curriculum to enable such production.
  • Gather 1000 financially independent Global Stewards to coordinate on a task chosen. The financial independence part means that the individuals can take on pressing tasks as they arise, without interference from their 'job'.
  • Educate 1000 individuals to the Edge of Knowledge to unleash the required collaborative swarm design-build talent for leading the lifestyle of a Global Steward
  • To get to the above, recover the individuals' genius. We propose to generate the Edge of Knowledge Curriculum of the 1000 Hour Curriculum. This is achieved once one gains robust financial independence, enabling basic thriving at 2 Hours of Work Per Day to guarantee a modern standard of living.
  • To get to the above, integrate and open all the required technology as Construction Sets - for technical, social, and organizational aspects of human enterprise. Social? Yes, for example, how do you build your character in an integrated, effective way? Use a Rapid Learning Facility to get there.
  • Develop a replicable Rapid Learning Facility which enables for the rapid learning of how to build anything, including character. We propose start with the home, which includes machines, solar concrete, an automated heavy machine infrastructure, and 3D printing.
  • To get there, develop a scalable, open enterprise that funds unlimited development by providing a robust economic flywheel. The same enterprise teaches everyone involved how to build anything. We propose the Seed Eco-Home Enterprise, with several technology design guides for supporting an effective integrated housing enterprise to solve housing. We propose to do this by education sessions starting with moral philosophy (education sessions), selecting for grit in the sand of the Coliseum (building houses), and teaching service to the world by lifelong learning. Continuing education curriculum is available to everyone, but the immersion experience (builds, live sessions, community and its fora, certifications) area available only to the investors. Investors are people who are investing to build themselves to build a better world.
