Great idea on Ungoogled Chromium. We still need to add extensions, though - is that an easy solution? Another question - I'm testing remote desktop control, trying to control another Ubuntu laptop like this - https://www.tecmint.com/enable-desktop-sharing-in-ubuntu-linux-mint/#:~:text=Under%20sharing%2C%20check%20the%20option,users%20to%20control%20your%20desktop%E2%80%9D

I got as far as installing Remmina, but Mint said the install failed when I installed it from Software Manager. Can you document remote desktop control between Mint Linii? The use case is teaching someone FreeCAD remotely.

  1. As far as http://www.femm.info/wiki/LinuxSupport it requires WINE (the Windows emulator for Linux) which would add almost 2GB to the image. So it would no longer fit on an 8GB USB. Maybe this is a reason to consider multiple "Linii" as you call them in the future.
  2. We're very very close to 8GB as is. So if you have it on an 8GB USB and are running it live, you might not be able to save files because of a lack of free space. Otherwise, if you have it on a larger USB, it still won't save them after restarting but I thought it would be able to save them during the session. There are ways to create a USB with persistent storage based on the ISO...check out https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14912/create-a-persistent-bootable-ubuntu-usb-flash-drive/
and I'll try saving something live when I get a chance. I imagined that the Live USB should just be for testing before installing, but now I realize that you probably want people to be able to bring their own computers and temporarily transform them into OSE Linux machines during workshops etc. so I will give this more thought.
  1. As for Chrome extensions, that's my fault. I chose to use something called "Ungoogled Chromium" and it's not set up to easily install extensions. I believe there is a way though...see if you/she can install https://github.com/NeverDecaf/chromium-web-store and see if that makes it easy to install extensions as usual. If so I can pre-install that for the final version of OSE Linux 2.0 (remember this version is the Beta).

Fix

Older version of java fixes the flashing- but resolution is still not high. SweetHome3D-Java3D-1_5_2 which is available in the Linux installer - per install instructions - does it.

Newer Version of Sweet Home 3D?

Crashes:

Driver Found

Upon restarting - driver fixed itself, back to 1940x resolution.

Jnlp javaws not working? Click on it, looks like it opens, then aborts. It did create a desktop shortcut.

Now, I'm on SH3d v6.2. Maybe update?

Driver Lost

Power outage, and driver is lost:

Next...

UI noted that java higher versions have WebStart download recommended:

If Java version 6 or superior is installed on your system, click on the following link to download and launch Sweet Home 3D version 6.4.2 (19.5 MB):

Launch Sweet Home 3D with Java Web Start

Tried it using Javaws according to instructions at [1]

Result - downloaded 100%. Command line shows process that appears to have stopped - nothing more is happening from here:

Config

Summary: Now the Nvidia utility works - how to configure? Install in section below worked according to [2] and using sudo apt install nvidia-driver-440. Note: the only discrepancy is that 450 is the newest.

Noticing, maybe install with sudo apt install nvidia-driver-450 ? I missed something - already installed.

Getting closer - Mint 20 forum thread - [3]. I went to Driver Manager in Mint - and see that Nvidia 450 driver is recommended and is installed.

Nothing. Flicker is there. Messed around with antialiasing, performance settings of card (speed or quality optimized)

Start

  • Inserting microSD directly into USB reader allowed Mint to boot up after resetting Bios on Ryzen 3600 by pulling out battery.
  • Graphics don't work in SweetHome3D - the blacking out.
  • Downloaded NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super graphics card driver from NVIDIA site. [4]
  • Also see Mint forums- [5]*
  • Card install fails at Nvidiainstall.png
  • How to read install log files - [6]
  • -> The file '/tmp/.X0-lock' exists and appears to contain the process ID '992' of a runnning X server.
  • X windows - [7]
  • Solution - [8]
  • Trying command line repo route:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

  • No, that appears to be Ubuntu instructions onluy
  • Try sudo apt install nvidia-driver-440
  • Nvidia forums - [9]
  • i386 refers to the 32-bit edition and amd64
  • Tried command line, but install appears to be 32 bit Nvidia Install... After rebooting, black screens in SweetHome are correctedu, but flashing and poor resolution exist.k Going to Nvidia settings program,,,

  • Trying to set up Ryzen 3600
  • Reset and select proper boot device - ERROR in bios
  • Apparently, the graphics card has driver from last time - screen is low resolution, driver issue from before.
  • OSE linux 1 loaded from USB - with bad resolution. CTRL-ALT-DEL fixed the boot order error.
  • Bios can be accessed via F12 on B450 Aorus M
  • Only 2 options are available in Bios for boot order - SSD and generic storage. No USB or anything like on other Gigabyte card.
  • It appears the Linux Mint wasn't read, but Linux 1 worked.
  • After messing with bios, ctrl-alt-del did not boot even the OSE Linux 1.
  • Time to reset bios again by taking out battery.

  1. Can't sign in to Chromium (no sign in button anywhere)
  2. Can't deactivate or remove extensions (remove and deactivate buttons show but don't work)
  3. Can't install new extensions (no install button anywhere, extension search shows no results)

The error screenshot shows what happens when I click "turn on sync."

  • Download of Seed Eco-Home is not working on live Linux. I set download folder to Desktop, files don't appear. Files didn't appear in download folder, either.
  • If you switch to a different window and go back to Sweet Home, you can't manipulate the render any more.
  • Trying to resolve issue in Linux 1 - http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2019/04/nvidia-430-09-gtx-1650-support/
  • Dell Precision M6500 with OSE Linux 2 Live USB (no install) - SweetHome3D crashes regularly upon resizing screen.

See GEFORCE Driver Install on Linux Mint. After installing the proprietary driver, the black screen was fixed, but a flicker upon rotating images is present in Sweet Home 3D, for example in the Seed Eco-Home 1 Master File For Catarina, this was deemed unworkable. Further, the resolution of the render is low.
