The Hadden Engine was selected because it is the only modern steam engine (poppet valve uniflow) for which castings and plans are available from Gary Hadden, Detroit, Michigan.

FeF evaluated the Wally Mounster modern steam engine, and selected the Hadden Engine because of availability of parts.
