Building on Flexible Fabrication, Digital Fabrication, Industrial Productivity on a Small Scale, Distributive Enteprise, Open Sector, Open Design, Basic Workshop, Lifetime Design, and other experimentation - we propose the Open Sector Workshop.

This is a commercially viable facility that can produce about 90% of consumer durables and other products necessary for a modern standard of living. Basic infrastructure involved includes:

Proof of Concept

  • Start with Large Workshop Structure with Roofless Roof and PV. Must thus include thermoplastic printing to deliver roofless roof geometry.
  • Basic Workshop for brute force fabrication including Frames that are rebar-based.
  • Basic Advanced Workshop for CNC torch, CNC machining. Includes Multimachine-style concrete block with spindle and linear travel axis and 2 opposed chucks, either of which can be driven. CNC grinder and drive added to this system, starting even with simple mounted grinders.
  • Rapid Learning Facility for housing, as means of cross-subsidization by training Civilization Builders in 4 years
  • Includes 50kW induction furnace for and 50kW VAWT windmill. See Aluminum Melting and Steel Melting - for yields of 2kg/kWhr of aluminum [1], and 2kg/Kwhr for iron [2]
  • Industrial grade shredder for plastic, aluminum, rock, and steel. 8' long and 26 hp. Doublesided drive.
  • Basic electronics capacity - 3D printed in the style of Universal Power Module, aluminum heatsinks, sockets, 3D printed terminal blocks of complex geometry. Can do controller, drone controllers, RTK GPS system, and sensor-actuator complexes.
  • Solar concrete - batch pottery/ceramic kiln for producing lime, pottery, ceramics.
  • Ball mill or rod mill for pulverizing. Cement, metal powders, micronized rubber, etc.
  • Hydrogen production - 50 kW system concept - industrial oxygen production and oxyhydrogen production.

Proof of Concept of Production Capacity

  • Building engines from scrap metal and aluminum using solar energy
  • Building cars and tractors from scrap steel and aluminum using solar energy
  • Building aerial drones and terrestrials drones from scrap metal, plastic; using Modular Electronics with various sensors up to RTK GPS and inertial guidance.
  • Producing commercially-viable quantities of concrete
  • Producing rebar and reinforced concrete structures, frames, and space frames.

Key to Success

Sufficient recursion must be available to make parts in house starting from waste plastic,
