These are general guidelines not instructions. The below licenses can be used in many ways on different instruments. Read them to understand how.

For Hardware, CAD files, Schematics, PCB's

Open Source Hardware use the Logo and provide some kind of license file with it.
CERN Open Hardware License and follow the instructions.

For Software, Code, Music and Video

Creative Commons Craft your own license, you choose what attributes you want to have associated with it.
GPL Once under GPL derivatives must remain under GPL.
FreeBSD Once under FreeBSD, derivative licences can be changed.

Public Domain

You can enter something into the Public Domain by providing a legal statement with it that states so. Once in the Public Domain it will remain there permanently. This procedure will vary from country to country. I would recommend asking for advice from a lawyer, notary public or solicitor. You should be able to get free advice on how to do this procedure. Actually doing the procedure might cost.
