Guidelines

Executive Director

  1. Recruiting - trains Executive Team
  2. Strategic Partnerships - Recruits and on-boards executive team - (1) Operations Manager, (2) Product Lead, #(3) Community Manager, and (4), Documentation Manager. Approves all hires, contractors, and volunteers. Develops strategic partnerships (30%).
  3. Standards Development: Develops documentation and development standards with assistance from Executive Team, and oversees execution (30%).
  4. Structuring and Oversight - Implements legal/financial compliance and operations. Manages executive team. (20%)
  5. Plan and Budget - Defines development plan and budget (20%).

Operations Manager

  1. Managing a full range of Open Source Ecology operations - design, fabrication, testing, pilot projects, documentation, production runs, special events, construction, communications, fundraising, office operations, facility maintenance and upgrades, and others.
  2. Assisting ED in developing organizational structure, infrastructure, and protocols - including office, internet, collaboration, transparency, and prototyping infrastructure
  3. Setting up and managing a production-based, for-profit branch of OSE operations
  4. Maintaining and updating OSE Operations Handbook (everything from email handling for the Assistant, blogging procedures, to financial controls)
  5. Overseeing facility and its development + production program
  6. Overseeing all budgets and digesting them for review by the ED
  7. Composing and negotiating contracts for staff and contractors, and assisting other executives in composing/negotiating contracts
  8. Helping ED in recruiting, making hiring suggestions, and on-boarding new candidates
  9. Building processes for effective team communication
  10. Managing Public Affairs

Product Lead

  1. Responsible for managing technical contributions from a broad range of dedicated staff and contract-based developers - designers, fabricators, engineers, consultants, and others
  2. Assists ED in defining specific task priorities for the Prototyping Plan of 2013
  3. Manages workshop and production runs
  4. Assists ED in developing effective protocols and innovative tools for streamlining development
  5. Specifies scopes of work, specifications, and clear conditions of satisfaction for design and prototyping work
  6. Maintains and updates OSE Development Handbook, a guide for effective open source product development
  7. Works with Documentation Manager to assure delivery of documentation
  8. Engages in Talent Search for top machine design and prototyping talent
  9. Reports to Operations Manager
  10. Maintains a contributor database with assistance from Technical Community Manager
  11. Publishes RFPs and solicits bids
  12. Collaborates with Technical Community Manager on special development events

Technical Community Manager

  1. Responsible for managing technical contributions from a broad range of Open Source Ecology stakeholders - designers, fabricators, builders, architects, engineers, videographers, technical writers, students, and others
  2. Leverages technical contributions from global community to augment the design/protyping/build efforts of the Product Lead
  3. Maintains good community relations to facilitate contributions
  4. Assists ED in streamlining a process for effective talent capture from a large pool of contributors by developing effective protocols and innovative tools
  5. Assists ED in developing a scalable, replicable, open source product development process
  6. Maintains and Updates OSE Community Handbook, a guide for remote collaborators
  7. Feeds contributor output to Documentation Manager and Product Lead
  8. Recruits, negotiates and formalizes participation of remote contributors
  9. Reports to Operations Manager
  10. Maintains a contributor database
  11. Organizes special events, hackathons, Flash Mobs, and other Crowd Design and Manufacturing sessions

Documentation Manager

  1. Responsible for managing delivery of technical documentation for the Global Village Construction Set
  2. Assists ED in developing effective protocols and innovative tools for streamlining the delivery of documentation
  3. Produces contract scopes of work and specifications to technical writers, videographers, and other documenters
  4. Maintains and updates OSE Documentation Handbook, a guide for effective open source product development
  5. Works with Product Lead to coordinate delivery of documentation
  6. Engages in Talent Search to find key contributors
  7. Reports to Operations Manager
  8. Maintains a documenter database with assistance from Technical Community Manager
  9. Publishes RFPs and solicits bids for documentation work
  10. Collaborates with Technical Community Manager on special documentation-producing events, such as book sprints, video editing hackathons, and others.
  11. Develops a remote video editing protocol
