Summary of Qualifications
I have had the opportunity to work and live on International projects within the mining, power generation, and petrol chemical industries in Chile, Argentina, Suriname, Russia, China Trinidad and threw out the Dutch Antilles. Domestically supervised installations within the mining, power generation, petrol chemical and custom manufactured automated material handling systems, and fabrications Field Management within these capital projects required a daily interface between management to the local disciplines by in field, hands on approach. This approach during pre construction meetings, heavy demolition, construction, starts up and commissioning comes from 30+ years of field experience. Responsibilities have included project & operational oversight of $200MM+ projects within multimillion dollar organizations. Analytical thinking and problem solving, negotiation and diplomatic skills. PC literacy, business objects, report control, ms applications. Exceptional communication and written skills. Project scheduling Primavera, No loss time recordable accidents during my watch.

Selected Achievements
Svedala
Completed $12MM grinding circuit 4 months ahead of schedule. Two 42'. 00” Rod/ball Mills to include support equipment.
Suriname, SA
Svedala Hefei Power Plant No.2 Anticipated pre-construction roadblocks at pre-construction meeting. Implemented said changes to project disciplines and schedule. Managed on site project. This in turn saved field man hours moving project ahead of projected schedule and hard time line. Hefei Power Plant No.2 PR China
Identified serious foundation concerns at the above coal-fired power plant, averting in future warranty work due to catastrophic failure of 6 pinion foundations. Hefei Power Plant No.2 PR, China

Svedala Implemented building and transportation of two 42' x 14', 750 tone grinding mills. Normally, such large components would be off loaded at dock area then transported to project site for erection. Direction would be to off load and build both units in hole at the dock area then heavy transport to established foundations. A 1000-tone gantry was established at the foundation area for unit placement. Once completed, units were transported and installed as a complete unit less bull gear and drives. This saved extensive project man-hours, rigging, fitting, and transporting costs. This action reduced project time by 1 month per unit with the client generating un-anticipated revenues. Suriname, SA

Installed 30 - 7 tone stators to 2 - 42ft. diameter SAG Mills (world's largest mills at this time) saving rigging, crane rental costs and man-hours while moving the project forward by 21 days per mill x 2. Multiple events as above during the civil, rigging mechanical and fabrication phases allowed client to begin generating product under projected scheduled time line. This in turn generated un-anticipated revenues. Argentina, SA

Engineered repair of a 42' x 14' cement mill. Traditional methods would have taken over 1 month due to disassembling over sized mill components. Traditional methods would pull in local trades and 200 ton crane to pull component sections then transport off site for repairs. Multiple round the clock support crews and equipment would be required to support the above. In field repair was completed in one week while on site with mill in existing operational location/position. Unit was brought back to factory alignments with minimal crew and support using local trades. Savings to the client were in the $MM's due to the project completion within the allowed seasonal shipping tonnage time. During the winter months shipping tonnage to storage silos is reduced due to weather conditions on the great lakes. Medusa Cement. USA

WHY are you motivated to support/develop this work?

  • Do you endorse open source culture?

Yes. The Open Source Culture could allow all skill sets abilities support basic needs. To have the ability to be part of a global influence were concepts, design, fabrications can eventually support new building materials from recycled products or basic fundamental equipment to support agriculture in undeveloped mention a few with out boarders for the betterment of the as well as educating people to the facts that life can be very pleasant off the grid.

  • Why are you interested in developing or supporting this work?

To contribute to a global influence.

  • How do you think that the GVCS can address pressing world issues?

Having the opportunity to perform as a Sr. Special Project Manager on capital projects I have to direct the team to out source fabrications. The process is to contact local disciplines (Fab shops, material suppliers) and forward RFQ's or RFP's. You truly never have the ability to capture true cost of said. Your steel comes from a few master distributors who sell to local distributes who sell to distributors in the project locations. Once you received your materials or the chosen fabricator receives said materials the price has been stepped on 3 times. Your forced to plug into the areas market value for services rendered (labor & materials cost). You hope from experience that when during the bid process you have captured all cost then attempt to capture the best market prices available. When during large projects and cement is required quite often I'll build a batch plant on site to support all civil needs and in so doing capturing higher quality control, transport cost and am left with basic materials cost as I utilize the sites spoils materials when appropriate to support the batch plant. To have the ability of managing an open source allowing one to capturing true fair market pricing through out the process would help alleviate global fluctuations and instabilities.

  • What should happen so that you become more involved with the project?

As a small business owner one must keep the lights on and support the family. I'm in this forced cycle of bids out followed by awarded project then funds in. Being a law of average individual the fact is so much energy is placed to the bid quantity going out with a very small % of return. Say in the future I support one of the teams directional projects and with the slight chance of returns (work, projects) One could possible step back from this all consuming cycle. With that said I feel that I can initially “initially support with 15 hrs per week in what ever capacity the teams feels would capture the most benefit. Concept, fabrication, project management, contracts what ever. I do not know were the team requires support. It could be such a simple start as answering questions by a team that is contemplating or is in the middle of a project. I'm so open to possibilities.

  • What are you missing in the project?

I'm so on board with the project concept. If lacking or missing any thing on my side of the rock would be that thought/question your team might be asking. What or how can Skip support the teams requirements? Plug me in.

  • What are your suggestions for improvement of the project?

I would be back seat driving at this stage of my entrance. My direction is to absorb and learn the teams total direction. I'm so plugged in just require that challenge.

  • How have you already contributed to the project?

I have several clients that I'm working with with next to a nothing budget. One has a very sound electric scooter with an earth magnet motor and will travel up to 40 MPH. I'm fabricating the prototype frame and designing the steering geometry as well as the running gear. I'm attempting on a grass roots level to give back rather then hit a client with this is the shop rate.

I believe in my heart that I have already contributed by reaching out indicating that I'm not from the grid. Yes I'm presently working with in but buy my reaching out showing that I could support the direction should indicate my intent.

HOW can you help?

  • How are you interested in contributing to the work of GVCS development?

Logistics, Project Management, Fabrications, Design, Concepts

  • Can you volunteer to work with us, and if so, how many hours per week?

Possible 15 hrs per week to start. Of course conversation would unfold as to the scale of the project/projects then produce man hrs in support of said. I believe we would have to have open dialog and discuss said direction.

  • Are you interested in working with us for pay? If so, what services can you offer, and what is your hourly or per-project rate?

I would be pleased to explore said. As for Hrly rate I'm based on a studio rate @ $75.00 per Hr. With in a 50 mile area of LA I'm @ the bottom with rates as high as 125 per hr. On a per-project I would produce an RFQ that would be based on the above shop rates to include materials, labor and since we are not using support venders support work such as painting would go to/with in the open sourse network. This is only conversation as we would explore were the OSE price breaks need to be and work accordingly to obtain them

Work load will not permit a visit but would like to arrange said in a few months if the invitation remains open?

  • Are you interested in purchasing equipment from us to help bootstrap development?

Not @ this time but would love to explore how I may help with the design/fabrication of said.

  • Are you interested in bidding for consulting/design/prototyping work?

Yes. Bring it on.

Yes.

  • Would you like to see yourself working with us on a full-time basis?

I would love to explore all possibilities. Possible after working with your team on a few projects. I'm very open to your teams thoughts.

  • Are you interested in being part of the world's first, open source, resilient community? The GVCS is the preparatory step for the OSE Village Experiment - a 2 year, immersion experiment (2013-2014) for testing whether a real, thriving, modern-day prototype community of 200 people can be built on 200 acres using local resources and open access to information? We are looking for approximately 200 people to fill a diverse array of roles, according to the Social Contract that is being developed. This may be the boldest social experiment on earth - a pioneering community whose goal is to extend the index of possibilities regarding harmonious existence of humans, ecology, and technology - as a beacon of light to benefit of all people on Earth.

I would love to explore all possibilities.
