The problem is that many of the new energy-saving materials have high embodied energy. Example: glass foam can be used for insulation. Very thin, offers great insulation but requires lots of fossil fuels to make. Natural materials (straw bale) have much lower embodied energy but are largely unsuitable for retrofitting existing cities. --Rasmus 10:33, 10 April 2011 (EDT)
