Talk:Open Source Heavy Lift VTOL + STOL RC Aircraft

I am unsure if the design of the Scaled Composites Proteus can handle the addition of wigntip EDFs. I think i will start by locating a Kerbal Space Program Model of the Scaled Composites Proteus, the start adding to it to see what the final airframe will look like. Then I will take the final KSP design and try to make a FreeCAD version and do some OpenFOAM simulations to be a bit more professional

So I found a model which I linked to in the page on the Proteus 281, and I modified it

Ignore the giant engines, as this was more an aerodynamics and COG + COT + COL test than a realistic module

Here is a photo of the (glitch yet viable) aircraft taking off in it's current form

Stock KSP does not support EDFs or Servos so the lift engines are fixed, and in-wing

Also the Stock KSP Controls do not allow for easy on the spot thrust control of multiple engine groups (at least to my ability) so it frequently crashes

I did get it to take off vertically a few times, STOL is super easy, and it could still do standard take offs and landings

One thing to consider is this did not model the drag from the lift engines, only their thrust, as I esentiially clipped them through the model

All in all it looks promising
