I am primarily an agroecologist with over 10 years experience in research and capacity building on sustainable design and management of agroecosystems in the Mediterranean and United Kingdom.
My research has focused on evaluation of ecosystem services, vegetative cover as an effective soil-and water-conserving measure, met through the use of no-till practices, mulch farming, and use of cover crops and other appropriate methods, soil biotic activity through the regular addition of organic matter (manure, compost and enhancement of communities of beneficial soil microorganisms by means of chitin integration), tree crop interactions, participatory design and management of agroforestry systems and socioeconomic impacts of sustainable value chains.
In the development field, my work has contributed to use of agroecological management of cereals and fruit by hundreds of farmers and increased value of sales by producer cooperatives.
