I have been using freely redistributable software for several decades, starting with DECUS distributions in the 1970s. I have collected and published gigabytes of open source software; In particular, I edited the later Sun User Group tapes and all of the Prime Time Freeware (book/CD) products. As a result of this involvement, I was present at the strategy session (Palo Alto, 1988.0203) that adopted Christine Peterson's suggestion of the term "open source". I continue to use and promote free and open source software.
