I started metal fabrication as a apprentice boiler maker workking at several nuclear fabrication facilities , became a journeyman,a shipyard fitter when I was injured. I used the re-training funds/benefits to secure a A.S Degree in metallurgy,as well as a AWS-QC-1 (CWI Certified Welding Inspector). A year later,I was hired by the federal government to work as RADCON C/105.3,working on 688 fast-attack nuclear submarines.2 years later,I left Mare Island Shipyard,as a ANSI 18.1 Health Physics Technician. I then spent 9 years working nuclear power outages doing radiation safety at 17 nuclear power stations. 1990,tired of traveling I went back to Inspection work, and began a total of 19 years at Carlson Testing Laboratories,as a state-cetified Certified Special Inspector.A change in ownership,(sons bought the company) forced me to return to work as a contract Radiation Protection Technician, working refueling outages at Excelon(west) nuclear stations. (I just completed 5 refuelings this spring at Byron,Braidwood,Quad, La Salle, and Clinton)
