Product Collaboration Strategy

OSE is working on the 50 GVCS Tools and 500 Modules which effective serve as the building blocks of the entire technosphere, down to the production of microchips and rocket ships, starting with mundane tools of production as embodied in the Open Source Microfactory.

OSE also has a long term vision beyond 2028 on its Roadmap, where we move into the applications of open source collaboration solving all Pressing World Issues. Because of the long term vision, we can consider collaboration with any other progressives on developing better technology. Note that our definition of 'better' is quite comprehensive, in that it also involves distributing wealth - which is a fundamental shift in how the economy works today.

This has profound implications on the reach of our potential collaborations. Essentially - we can collaborate with anyone - whether it's developing 3D printed electric motors, open source silicon LCD screens, lifetime design household appliances and tools, CNC machines, tractors, houses - you name it.

Thus, when designing collaborations, we have a wide range of opitons. OSE is developing the OSE Podcast, guest podcast appearances of OSE, collaborations with schools, universities, and other organizations and businesses, collaborative literacy training via the Open Source Microfactory STEAM Camp, and more. In designing collaborations, we can always reach for common ground based on an agreement to solve larger problems. By invoking mechanisms of larger participation - by making the value of collaboration clear to stakeholders - we can engage more stakeholders and then work on larger problems.

If we are working on the Open Source Economy - that means that we are working on product development. The little-known secret to broad collaboration is understanding that most people are working on product development. This could be hardware products, information products, and services. Thus, OSE has the potential to tap collaboration with just about anyone - if the potential collaborator understands that they are doing product development and that this is therefore common ground - and if the collaborator wants to solve problems much bigger than they would on their own.

What?

Yes, an acedemic is a product developer. They are just at the early stages of the productization process, such as with basic R&D. The entire manufacturing sector is clearly in product development. The entertainment industry is in product development of VR/AR systems. Marketers are developing information products for how to communicate a message to customers. Education is all about information products. Etc. Point is: product development collaboration can apply to a wide range of products. Given that OSE's goal is the Open Source Economy founded on Distributive Enterprise - that means we are game for developing transformative products across all sectors.

One approach to that is OSE serving as an incubotor for collaboration by:

  1. Selecting bigger problems to work on
  2. Gathering enough people to solve that problem.

This is all about marketing to attract the development teams, and solving for incentives if the process is to be for the 'greater good' - where financial incentives may not be the main reason we start the work - but economic sustainability is certainly a required outcome for anything to continue.

The basic offer is:

  1. Let's solve bigger problems, by working together.
  2. Let's collaborate. Specifically - this means that your work becomes easier - not harder by taking on new tasks - if the collaboration is truly effective.
  3. Let's bring together sufficient numbers of people by expanding scope
  4. Let's solve Brooks Law by proper structuring of the collaboration
  5. Let's grow as humans into an abundance mindset - ie, learn Collaborative Literacy - so that we can actually share
