Universal Watercooler
From Open Source Ecology
Basics
- Universal Power Supply is to electricity as this is to watercooling
- Can be low level air based to ambient only for PCs and Lights or Refrigeration/TEC + air based sub ambient cooling
- Has a controller, a resevoir, a pump, and a modular manifold
- Could perhaps borrow from the existing development of manifolds etc for the Hydronic Heating system
- Could be a huge hit for Watercooled TIG Torches as for long term use this is a near neccesity, and most consumer units are HEAVILY overpriced
- A small module with a pc compatible control port could be a huge hit for PC Watercooling as it could remove some of the complexity
- Will be used in the Modular LED Light Core Module
Existing Open Source Designs
Industry Standards
Minimum Viable Product
- 100Ml and up resevoirs
- Simple reliable pump (need to research flow rates and available small pumps
- Make a version with integrated controlls, and one for tethered use (With PCs etc)
- Have an in and out port, with an optional manifold module (electronic and manual)
- Passive Radiator, Active Fan Radiators, and Radiator + Refrigeration/TEC Module Versions (Make a radiator/cooling module perhaps?)
- use the Universal Power Supply (if it's not overkill) (standard pc power in for thethered use (or usb? needs research) )
Basic Design
Resevoir
- Holds spare liquid, in low level units is barely needed
- In larger units it can also act as a bit of a heat sink in itself
- 100ml and up?
Pump
- OTS or buy?
- gear pump most likely?
Tubing
Ports
- Either barb fittings or some sort of quick disconnect
Control Module
- Could most likely be an arduino, a basic led blinker and 7 segment led or basic lcd display, and some thermal probes (in water temp, out water temp, ambient water temp etc)
- Not needed if tethered?
Power Supply
- Basic in port if tethered?
- Arduino for standalone
Safety
- Aformentioned thermal probes
- Emergency cutoff signal for connected equipment (ESPECIALLY for watercooled tig torches)
- Warning blinky lights etc
- Low liquid level warning system
Manifold
- Extra piping mounts on the in/out ports
- Has more in/out ports
- Can be passive, have manual valves, or controlled electronic valves
